Discovery consultation to learn more about your project

We meet up to chat about your project. This can be an in-person meeting (if you live in the KZN Midlands) or can be done virtually using a video meeting app like Zoom. This is your chance to share your unique creative vision and my chance to learn as much as I can about you and your project. Please ask me as many questions as you want.

After our consultation, I will send you a proposal that has all the information you need, including the project cost.

Design & develop your new website

02

I will set up your project in my favourite project management tool – ClickUp. I’ll then create a development domain and begin designing your homepage.

I will send you a first look and possibly an alternate homepage design. You tell me what you love, and don’t love, and I’ll refine the design until you love the look and feel of your new digital space.

I’ll then move onto designing the other web pages.

03

Launch your new website

I’ll do a final review of your website (including full proof reading) and testing across browsers and devices.  When we’re both ready it’s time to go live with your new website.

I encourage you to make the most of your website’s launch. You could have a countdown on your social media channels to create excitement or even create some sort of offer or giveaway. I will give you a promotional graphic and share the launch across my social media channels.

Yes, every website Nutmeg develops will automatically adjust for different screen sizes, whether that’s a big iMac screen or a small iPhone screen.

I design with mobile users in mind as more users will probably view your website with a mobile device as opposed to a desktop or laptop. In practice this means making sure your website delivers a great user experience to mobile users as well as users viewing on a bigger screen.

Before launch I will test your website across a number of popular web and mobile browsers and devices to ensure it looks great and functions perfectly.

Firstly, let me distinguish between the two types of WordPress – WordPress.com and WordPress.org.

WordPress.com is a blogging platform that is owned and hosted online by Automattic (the developers behind WooCommerce). WordPress.com is an all-in-one hosting solution much like Squarespace, Wix, Weebly and Shopify in that they host and manage your website files. With WordPress.com you do not own your website files. You also do not have control over your website files. This means that if WordPress.com were to close down, you’d face the risk of losing your website and all it’s content. WordPress.com uses a modified version of WordPress.org’s open source software.

WordPress.org is free-to-use, open source content management software. With WordPress.org, the website owner or developer needs to organise their own website hosting (a dedicated third party company that will store your website files for you on their servers and make sure your website stays online). This is why WordPress.org is known as a self-hosted option. The important distinction is that this option gives you full control over your website files and you 100% own your website.

Over 25% of the websites on the internet use the WordPress.org content management system.

Because it’s the most popular framework out there, you’ll also easily be able to find a web developer to help you with your WordPress website. This is not the case with Shopify, where Shopify experts are few and far between.

Every website I design and develop uses WordPress.org software and a premium WordPress theme with a world-class visual page editor / builder (Elementor Pro depending on the project). These tools make it easy for clients to edit, update and maintain their own sites. This is what I call empowered web design – you no longer need to call your web developer every time you need to make a minimal change to your site.

Search engine optimisation, SEO, is aimed at optimising your website so that it ranks highly in search engine results when users search for the products or services your website is marketing / selling.Thereby ensuring organic traffic to your website increases. Organic traffic simply means you haven’t paid to rank highly in the search results via a pay per click advertising channel such as Google Adwords.Ideally, SEO specialists aim to get a website to appear on the first page of search engine results for the keywords and key-phrases being targeted.In some cases, it’s relatively simple and quick to get a business to the first page of Google. In other cases where the market is competitive and over-saturated, it takes many months of consistent, behind-the-scenes work.SEO services Nutmeg offers:– All web packages include basic SEO. I help you identify keywords and key-phrases, conduct keyword research, integrate them with your copy, set up Google Analytics and Search Console and use a WordPress plugin such as The SEO Framework to create website metadata and submit sitemaps to search engines. I also advise clients to set up a Google my Business listing as well as social media profiles that include their URL in order to start building backlinks.– Nutmeg also offers a bespoke and in-depth SEO service to clients that are operating in highly-competitive markets, or who really need to rank highly in Google, particularly in location-based search results. This strategic service is only available to existing Nutmeg clients. Why? Because following good design practices is a big part of best-practice SEO, and I cannot control this aspect if I have not designed your website.

Gone are the days when you hired a developer to build you a website, and after they were done your site remained as is, with you requesting the occasional update or addition.

With WordPress you will also need to ensure your website is regularly updated and backed up – much like any modern device or application. This includes WordPress software updates, theme updates and plugin updates. It’s simple enough and I explain the process in the website guide I will give to you at handover.

Your website is also your most important marketing tool, and the central hub of all your digital marketing efforts. In order for it to remain effective and competitive you are going to need to continue developing, measuring results and optimising it, as you would with any other marketing channel.

This could take the form of writing and publishing engaging blog posts relevant to your industry. You can then use this content in your email marketing and social media marketing campaigns. Blogging is also the most important way to improve your website’s search engine ranking.

You can also use your website as a tool for collecting potential customers / clients contact details by offering them a freebie in exchange for their email addresses. They’re then on your mailing list and you can begin nurturing these potential customers. You can use that same freebie to create a Facebook Ads campaign to lure people to your website. Then using a Facebook Pixel you can then create a Facebook Ad that directly targets the people who’ve just visited your website.

An optimised website is also intrinsic to a successful Google Ads campaign.

Yes absolutely.

For clients who want to manage + maintain their own WordPress websites: I include a detailed and bespoke guide showing you how to update your site via the content management system, make copy changes, replace images, change SEO details, amend products, publish a blog post and monitor your site’s analytics. I create a bespoke WordPress admin dashboard for you and include tutorial videos .

When developing your website I will also create a back-up system for you so that your site files are protected by regular, automated backups. I’ll explain how this works in your website user guide.

If you do require ad-hoc development work, I charge R650 per hour.

For clients who don’t want to manage their own sites: I offer web care plans starting from R750 per month.

This includes:

– bi-monthly plugin, theme & security updates;

– general maintenance including security monitoring;

– 1 hour of development work during the month [ this includes updates and copy / product amendments requested by client and one blog upload per month – copy provided by client];

– Phone and email support;

Two main factors influence Nutmeg’s pricing:

1. The estimated time it will take to complete a project, from planning to launch.

2. The knowledge and experience I bring to each project or campaign resulting in the added value I can offer clients.

While this may be a new business, I bring a wealth of knowledge and hands-on experience to each project and client.

Before launching Nutmeg, I gained over 10 years’ experience working in corporate and agency environments in South Africa and the UK. My experience covers media + communications, public relations, brand management, graphic + digital design and strategic digital marketing.

All of this knowledge goes into every web design project I work on.
